Desperate Measures

When you have a baby in your care 24/7 who is doing nothing but fussing. You'll do anything.
I mean anything. Including spending tons of money on toys to ease her. Was she bored? Was she teething? I didn't know. So I covered both bases.
Enter Sophie and the Jumperoo...

she was a little confused by the jumperoo at first.
"Why would you buy this jumper Mom? I already have one."
Well honey, because this has cheap plastic toys to ease your boredom.

I enlisted Freddy's help to to ease her into it.

But she's getting the hang of it. Thanks to the Aunties for helping me find "the perfect" one.

So then Sophie.
Sophie is a very popular teething toy. All natural rubber, food based paints, and way too expensive for what is basically a squeaky chew toy. But she loves her. So there ya go.

In all of this Piper has really found her hands. She's been grabbing, but nothing like today. Today I am saying goodbye to my earrings, loose hair styles, and sometimes - my glasses.
She watches her hand, open and closes her fingers looks at the object she wants - and lunges.
Ouch.
But that use of her hands and limbs also means she's putting her little arms around my neck and tries to hug and "kiss" me. Too sweet. Too too sweet...

Rollin' Mad

Things have been...well...challenging around here lately.
While Piper first rolled from front to back at 6 weeks, she did it rarely. Then resently she started rolling back to front. Quite well actually, very quick and smooth. But then...well then she got pissed.
I mean real pissed.
Because she suddenly has forgotten how to roll the other way. It would be fine except that it translated into an all day pissy-ness that came with all day needy, fussy fits. I suppose for the most part I have it pretty easy on most days. But this went on and on day after day. Josh and I began to fear that our sweet, happy little girl was showing true colors. All day she would whine and fuss. She didn't want to be held, didn't want to play - nothing would ease the constant "ugh. ugh. ugh."

Our dear friend Sandra came over to play while I had dance practice and not only did Piper continue to take the bottle (yay!), but she rolled back the other way with Sandra and seemed to loose her fussy pants.
Maybe she just needed a break from me.

But fast forward a few hours and she lost the roll again. Now the fussy pants are still missing... it is just that she can't remember how she rolled over.

some pep talks from Dad

and success!

But she's still working on remembering how to do it.
It will happen consistently soon I'm sure.
For now, for now I'm just happy to have my giggling baby back!

Auntie Invasion!

This weekend we had Aunties Aunties EVERYWHERE!

Amy, Sandi, and Charlie took the trek to see Piper and after some adjustment time Piper warmed to them and loved the attention. Thanks Aunties for a great visit!

Primpin'

I had my first performance for Belly Dance since Piper's birth and Piper had her first primping session. She was a little thrown off when I picked her up from her nap all dolled up and ready to go, but she figured out I was "Mom" pretty quick. So far she's loved the practice sessions she's seen and has even come to love the zills (finger symbols).

Big Day

Well the day started the same as any other. But on a whim I tried to nap Piper without her swaddle (no one arming it this time, took the whole thing off) and it worked this time. We still have some practice ahead of us, but so far so good.
To celebrate we tried a smidgen of brown rice cereal. Not much at all, but she loved it and took (most of) it quite easily.

Kitty is in there with her

New Friends

Meet "Kitty"
These days we've been working on the bottle and as part of that process I needed to help Piper find a "lovey," someone who would be there when I wasn't. Kitty was a gift from our dear friend Alison and she fit the current criteria.
Breathable, small and...
replaceable.
Every week Piper has been having a play date with Grammy Eileen and it was becoming apparent that in order to get her to take the bottle she needed something more. So far her new friend has been helping and has even helped her take another big leap...

and Freddy doesn't seem to be threatened by Kitty at all

Play time with Daddy

Every morning (bless him) Josh and Piper have some alone time while I get a little more shut eye. This time, I think, is vital for all of us. They read, they play and now these days Josh is able to give Piper a bottle and get her down for her morning nap on the days I need
just a little more sleep.
